Source

10 Robert Harp Dr., Livingston, NJ, 07039, US

On July 4, 2026, the United States will commemorate the 250th anniversary of its independence, marking a pivotal moment in world history when a group of colonies challenged the most powerful empire of their time. This engaging multimedia presentation by historian and photographer Mario Medici, traces the dramatic story of the American Revolution, beginning with the growing tensions between the colonies and Great Britain and culminating in the bold declaration of independence. Through a clear chronological narrative, the program explores the political conflicts, acts of resistance, and decisive moments that transformed colonial protest into a full-scale revolution. Participants will revisit key events such as the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, the battles of Lexington and Concord, and the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence. Along the way, the program highlights the contributions of influential figures including George Washington, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson, as well as the many ordinary men and women whose courage and sacrifices shaped the revolutionary cause. The presentation will include references to period artwork by artists of the time, video scenes and audio segments depicting key events and individuals that bring the story vividly to life. Get ready to be inspired by the stories of the brave men and women who risked everything for a desperate bid for freedom. This program is made possible with the support of The Friends of the Livingston Public Library.

VIRTUAL Migrant Heart: The Hidden Cost of the American Dream and Healing Through Storytelling with Reyna Grande

Source

US

In her ambitious new memoir, Migrant Heart: Essays About Things I Can’t Forget, beloved bestselling author Reyna Grande illuminates the hidden cost of the American Dream and the complex journey of healing that follows survival. What is the true power of stories? Can they heal the jagged edges of a traumatic childhood? Is the cost of telling the story worth the price of the cure? With her signature blend of sophistication and raw honesty, Grande interrogates how living between two nations, two languages, and two identities has shaped the woman, mother, and writer she has become. Moving from the legacy of violence in her hometown of Iguala, Mexico, to a bittersweet family vacation in Europe spent reconciling her own impoverished past with her children’s world of abundance, she uncovers startling truths about the nature of survival. Whether being racially profiled in the Arizona borderlands or finding unexpected wisdom from the slugs in her garden, Grande unflinchingly asks: How do we bridge the gap between who we were and who we have become? How do we turn pain into power? When memory threatens to define us, how can we use story to heal while still honoring our boundaries? Register today for this virtual talk if you identify as a seeker, a dreamer, or “anyone who believes in the enduring, transformative power of finding one’s voice.” About the Author: Reyna Grande is an award-winning author, motivational speaker, and writing teacher. As a young girl, she crossed the US–Mexico border to join her family in Los Angeles, a harrowing journey chronicled in The Distance Between Us, a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist. Her other books include the novels A Ballad of Love and Glory, Across a Hundred Mountains, and Dancing with Butterflies, the memoirs Migrant Heart, The Distance Between Us: Young ReadersEdition, and A Dream Called Home, and the anthology Somewhere We Are Human: Authentic Voices on Migration, Survival, and New Beginnings. She lives in Woodland, California, with her husband and two children. Visit ReynaGrande.com for more information.

Tuesday Night Movie: IS THIS THING ON?

10 Robert Harp Dr., Livingston, NJ, 07039, US

Come see Bradley Cooper's IS THIS THING ON? on the big screen in our program room! As their marriage unravels, Alex (Will Arnett) faces middle age and divorce, seeking new purpose in the New York comedy scene. Meanwhile, his wife Tess (Laura Dern) confronts sacrifices made for their family, forcing them to navigate co-parenting and identities. The Hollywood Reporter calls IS THIS THING ON? "an unassuming comic drama that sneaks up on you, its emotional honesty fueled by gorgeous performances of unimpeachable naturalness from Will Arnett and Laura Dern." Time magazine says, "It’s the kind of story that was made for the intimacy of the movie theater, and for the possibly lost tradition known as movie-date night. As ambitions go, that’s a pretty noble one." This film is rated R, and runs 2 hours. It will be screened with English subtitles for the hard of hearing. This screening is free and open to the public, with no registration required. Free popcorn will be served (while supplies last). Doors open 30 minutes before showtime.
