Join Professor O'Sullivan for a presentation focused on why it seems so difficult for many residents to identify as Floridians. Called “the Sports Grammarian” by the Orlando Sentinel and a “boundary-cracking lit professor” by the Orlando Weekly, Maurice J. “Socky” O’Sullivan is an award-winning teacher, writer, columnist and filmmaker. The Kenneth Curry Professor of Literature Emeritus at Rollins College, Socky has served as the President of the Florida Historical Society, the College English Association, the Florida College English Association, and the Central Florida English Speaking Union. He has written and spoken extensively on literature, Florida, popular culture, Shakespeare, religion, Irish culture, education, and current events. Among his dozen books are Florida Noir, a Mystery Writers of America Edgar finalist; The Florida Reader, winner of the Charlton Tebeau Award; and A Trip to Florida for Health and Sport, winner of the Patrick Smith Award and the first dual language book published by a Chinese university press. A former teamster and jail guard, he is also publisher of Angel Alley Press, the executive producer of a series of educational films, and a founding partner of Dan McGuinness Irish Pubs in Nashville. No registration is required for this program which is intended for adults without charge.

School-age children are introduced to the building blocks of one or more S.T.R.E.A.M learning concepts through exploratory hands-on activities in a fun and educational environment. Kids can let their imagination soar with hands-on building challenges with LEGO® blocks.
