DTM and Aisha will share their process in harnessing the power of AI with easy-to-follow instructions on how to express yourself to get effective results. The resources are free and available online, so bring your personal device (or use the library's) and get ready to explore the world of AI with Microsoft CoPilot and ChatGPT. At the end of the session, make sure you check out your first couple of books from your new reading list and start your Summer Reading Season! Harness the power of Copilot and ChatGPT to organize your summer reading calendar and illustrate images from the story with the power of Firefly!

America turns 250 years old this month! Our young country has seen ups, downs, twists, and turns. Though, the American Spirit has been more powerful than them all. Every bit of our history shows us where we have been and gives us the blueprint to shape our future. To celebrate, and challenge what we think we know about our home, join us for a bit of essay writing.  Prompt: Find a piece of unknown or little-known American history and write a narrative essay as if you were a person living at that time. What might they want us to know about their world? Eligibility and prize: Any teen or adult is eligible to submit an essay. The most well-written essay in each category (teen or adult) will win a $20 gift card. Essays must be 1000-1500 words, 12pt Times New Roman font, and properly formatted according to MLA standards. Please also designate which category you are submitting for in your heading. Email your essay to Kirkwood.Branch@fultoncountyga.gov by July 20th. Winners will be notified July 27th.

Dig into your history and experience a personal memoir with writer and educator, Rita Awan. Join us for a reading from her memoir, Unfinished Business , a Q & A session,   and book signing!   *Notebooks and pens will be provided while supplies last Rita Awan is a Kirkwood-based author whose work explores the complexities of human experience, social justice, and contemporary challenges. Her debut collection, Subliminal Noise , is a powerful book of poetry that offers a kaleidoscopic lens on relationships, climate change, homelessness, and war. Her second book, Unfinished Business , is a memoir narrated from the perspective of a sister reflecting on the arrest of her brother. As a close-knit community struggles to comprehend how such a tragedy could befall the son of a church-going family, the narrative examines the far-reaching consequences of addiction. The memoir challenges readers to consider not only the role of the family unit but also the intersection of broader social institutions and influences.

Join us for a reading from her memoir,  The Innermost House , a *writing exercise, and book signing!   *Notebooks and pens will be provided.  Born and raised in Wellfleet, MA, Cynthia Blakeley is a first-generation college graduate who now lives and gardens in Decatur, GA, where she writes creative nonfiction, works as a freelance editor, and teaches courses at Emory University on memory and memoir, dream theories, and literature. She has been interviewed on public radio and in the Boston Globe and Wall Street Journal , and her creative nonfiction has appeared in Cape Cod Voice , HerStry , and Dreamers Magazine . Ask a Social Worker is a designated timeframe when a social worker will be available to provide walk-in services to library patrons. During these times, the social worker on-site can assist with applying for various government benefits, obtaining housing or rental assistance, and obtaining homeless identification letters. They can also provide information about local resources for unhoused patrons.
