Please join Katie from the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) to discuss public transit accessibility. We will be discussing accessible public transportation, how to plan a trip, the RTA Fare Programs (Reduced Fare and Ride Free), as well as ADA Paratransit and the Taxi Access Program (TAP). For those interested in applying for a card, please bring an ID and proof of disability (if applicable). For those interested in applying for a Ride Free card, please complete the Benefit Access Program application through the Illinois Department on Aging prior to the event. There will be time after the presentation for questions and assistance with individual RTA applications. Registration is recommended but not required. Edgewater Community Music Jam

Join us for community music jam sessions for musicians of all levels who play acoustic instruments.  Participants also may be singers and listeners. Sessions are one hour and include group playing, solo/small group playing and break/social time. Percussion instruments are provided, and participants are welcome to play them to keep a beat and enhance the music. Participants may bring portable keyboards/pianos, guitars, ukuleles, mandolins, violins, violas, cellos, basses or autoharps. Brass and woodwind instruments also are welcome. Sorry, no electric guitars, electric basses or drum kits. Music is provided in print form or projected on screen. We play songs of varying styles, including folk, country, pop, standards, jazz, classical, Broadway and seasonal. Players are encouraged to bring music stands, tuners or guitar capos. Percussion instruments include the cajon, hand drums, shakers, tambourine and djembe. We welcome all ages: adults, teens and families! Led by Edgewater’s own Mike Kennedy, a musician and retired music and technology teacher. Our monthly Memory Café offers a comfortable and supportive environment for individuals with memory loss and their caregivers. Activities at this event will vary at each meeting but will include games, arts and crafts, music, and more. Friends, family members, and community allies also are welcome! We’ll meet on the third Friday of every month. The first hour is reserved for the formal program; the second hour is set aside for socialization. Light refreshments will be served but feel free to bring a bagged lunch. There will also be a raffle for a special door prize! Letters to America: Celebrating 250 Years of America

Letters to America is a citywide letter-writing project to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States. Chicagoans are invited to reflect on their lives, communities and experiences in Chicago and how those stories connect to a broader American story. Letters will become part of an archival collection at CPL. Join us as we sit down and write Letters to America. Not sure what to write about? Think about your life in 2026 and tell a story. Topics could include: a place in Chicago that matters to you; something Chicago has taught you; a time you acted or saw others in your Chicago community act; an aspect of Chicago culture that has shaped you; or an experience in Chicago that reveals something about America.
