Humboldt Park, 1605 N. Troy Street, Chicago, IL 60647
Image Credit: Bird Collisions in the Anthropocene Join Humboldt Park staff and Envision Unlimited for an art/ecology workshop! Bird Collisions in the Anthropocene is a large-scale civic engagement art project comprised of over 10,000 bird replicas made by citizens of the world to raise awareness about bird building collisions. Participants will be provided a blank bird body, assigned a specific bird that died in 2023 from window collisions in Chicago, and led through the crafting process to create a replica. Embracing an environmentally sustainable practice, we will use donated fabric scraps that would otherwise end up in the landfill. Birds will be tagged with their common and scientific name, date of death and the name and hometown of the artist. Information and materials for making home windows safer for birds will also be available during the workshop. The goal of Bird Collisions in the Anthropocene's project is create a “red carpet” of birds measuring the length of a football field and exhibited across the US and Canada to raise awareness about bird safe windows and celebrate the over 300 species of birds that migrate across North America. The workshop is open to adults, teens, and families with children age 10+. This is a wonderful way for parents to connect with kids through a crafting event while discussing wildlife conservation. Bird crafting takes 30 - 60 minutes depending upon the individual! Accessibility Need sign language interpretation or other accessibility assistance for this event?
