Worlds in Words is a creative writing workshop for tweens (ages 10-13), aiming to inspire and expand curiosity while honing essential writing skills (and building worlds just using our words). This workshop series is run by two rising seniors at Brookline High School, Adelyn Sullivan and Sadie Chen Gordon. This series will run every Saturday, June 27 through August 29 (excluding July 4) from 11 AM to 1 PM in the Tween Room at the Brookline Village Library. This free monthly Cafe at the Putterham Library, taking place every second Tuesday of the month from 1 to 2 PM, is for people with memory challenges and their care partners to connect with their peers. Both participate in socialization and can partake in refreshments and a variety of enjoyable programming in order to gain support and engage with others in a relaxing environment. Either party can attend by themselves, but a care partner must accompany those who require any care assistance. Join us for four classes (June 17, June 24, July 8, and July 15) to learn about the benefits of using sign language to help build communication skills, reduce frustration, and enhance connection. Each week, adults and babies will get a chance to learn and practice new signs to use together as they play and interact with the instructor and the group! This program is intended for preverbal children ages 2 months to 2 years old and their caregivers. Registration for each session is required and will open on Wednesday, June 3. Sheryl White of Baby Kneads has been teaching programs and working with families since 1999. She is a Certified Educator of Infant Massage, Baby Signer, Reiki Master and mother of three. Her role in these classes is to facilitate and help strengthen the connection between infant and caregiver through early communication. Are you looking for a low-lift reading group? Come and meet other millennial-identified folk in an informal book group that's been meeting since 2013. We read a variety of mostly recent-ish books. Last year, some fiction include: The Vegetarian by Han Kang and Euphoria by Lily King, as well as non-fiction like The Half Known Life by Pico Iyer, and even the graphic novels, A Contract with God and Logicomix.
