Every spring in the land we now call Maine, hundreds of thousands of amphibians such as frogs awaken to leave their underground homes in the pouring rain. Learn about amphibian migration by meeting a frog puppet and creating a mini-sensory vernal pool to reenact the life cycle of a frog. This program is designed for a preschool audience by the presenter.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Nye Pelton, Community Educator from the Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association will deliver an awareness program to help the community better understand the disease and where to turn for support. The program will cover the difference between dementia and Alzheimer's disease, the 10 warning signs, the prevalence of the disease, importance of early detection, new advances in treatment options and what the Association offers. Nye will also share how you could get involved in the mission of a world without Alzheimer's and all other dementia.

Portland Public Library is proud to host the Wabanaki Alliance on July 18th for a panel discussion entitled ‘From Treaties to Today’. The panel will discuss the modern history of treaties, agreements, and legislation between the Wabanaki nations, the US, and the state of Maine. The panel will explore how relationships have continued, how they have changed, and what needs to change.
The Wabanaki Alliance is a coalition of Mi’kmaq Nation, Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, Passamaquoddy Tribe and Penobscot Nation which advocates for education in Maine on Tribal sovereignty.
