Join us for Chair Yoga at the library led by instructor Jasmine from the Ferguson Family YMCA. Chair yoga is a form of traditional hatha yoga that uses a chair as a prop. Yoga increases flexibility, improves strength, and calms the mind and body. The practice of chair yoga serves a diverse range of populations: - People who are new to yoga - Office workers - Folks with limited mobility - Those that are healing after illness or surgery We will meet on Thursdays from 9:15-10:00 AM in the Enka-Candler Community Room. Come join us for a roaring good time with Professor Whizzpop's gigantic new show all about dinosaurs, reading books, prehistoric creatures, and fossilized fun: The Monster Magic Show! During the show we'll assemble a dino from fossils, dodge monsters, hatch a baby dino, and even let a T-Rex have a magical meal! There will be laughs, giggles, amazing magic, and lots and lots of mega-monsters! This program will be inside and seating is on a first come, first served basis; kids will be given first priority for seating. Also, please be aware that this show gets loud. If your child has a sensitivity to sound, please consider bringing headphones for them or borrowing a pair at our front desk.

The Fairview Library Book Club is a book discussion group that meets monthly with both an in-person and online option. We read a variety of genres. Newcomers are always welcome! The July selection features a short story. Brokeback Mountain by Annie Proulx is a poignant story about two ranch hands, whose deep emotional and romantic connection begins while working together one summer in rural Wyoming. The story discussion will begin at 11am and last for 30-45 minutes. The discussion will be followed by a screening of the 2005 feature film drama directed by Ang Lee. The film will begin at 11:45am and the length is 2 hours & 14 minutes. Please feel free to BYO bag lunch. The library will provide popcorn and canned seltzers.

Community Building for Expectant and New Parents

Join us every Friday between 3-4:30 pm for a casual gathering of expectant and new parents/caregivers of babies 0-18 months. This is a space for you to connect and share experiences of pregnancy and parenthood. There will be vinyl mats, instruments, and small toys available for babies to play. Please note that while older siblings are welcome to attend, this event is primarily designed to be a safe space for parents and babies from 0-18 months. Parents/caregivers will be responsible for ensuring that all children are behaving safely (walking feet, appropriate use of toys, and mindfulness that the play space is specifically designed for babies). No registration is required. Drop ins are welcome. We are thrilled to open our space to you once a week to connect and learn from each other!

Peter will perform an original puppet show for the crowd featuring puppets he has created himself. Following that, we will have puppet-making crafts and activities. Reading MENtors is a reading initiative that encourages men from our community to celebrate that reading is for everyone. We’re inviting men with different professions from all over Buncombe County to share the joy of reading with young patrons at Enka-Candler Library. If you'd like to volunteer to be a MENtor or know someone who would be great at it, let us know! A librarian is always with the MENtor during the program.
