We're partnering with the YWCA to bring Care for Kids to East End Branch! This engaging age-appropriate program for children ages 3-7 helps young learners build confidence, understand body boundaries, and practice using their voices. Through stories, discussion, and interactive activities, children will explore positive self-esteem, safe decision-making, and how to talk to trusted adults. Best for ages 3 - 7 with a caregiver present. Join Richmond Public Library as we learn, grow, and practice powerful skills together! Care for Kids is a developmentally appropriate health education and sexual abuse prevention curriculum. The goal of Care for Kids is to support students, staff, and caregivers in preventing violence by encouraging positive self-esteem, an understanding of body boundaries, coping with boundary violations, promoting open and comfortable conversations between adults and children, and adult responsibility for the healthy development of children. Lesson 1: Asking for Help Sometimes we can do things by ourselves and sometimes we need to ask for help When one grown-up can’t help you, you can ask 2 or 3 other grown-ups for help Lesson 2: Feelings Everyone has all kinds of feelings and each one is okay When you are not sure what you are feeling, we call that “mixed-up” or “confused” Lesson 3: Bodies Our bodies are good, special, and deserve care and respect, including private areas Private parts are kept to ourselves and are special. Small children sometimes need help washing and wiping their private parts, but older children and adults do not need help from children with their private parts It is good to know the names of body parts Lesson 4: Babies Babies need help with most things and deserve to be looked after As children grow, they learn to do things by themselves, but sometimes still need help Lesson 5: Asking for Permission Sometimes we like touching and sometimes we don’t Touching is never a secret Any person can say “no” to touching Do not touch someone who says, “no touching” Lesson 6: Review & Wrap-up
