In this series , participants will learn the basics of playing the Ukulele, will acquire the ability to read chords, and get hands-on experience with the instrument. The series will include 3 sessions and each session will cover the following: Session 1, Jul. 8: How to hold & strum the ukulele; Reading Chord charts, & tuning Session 2, Jul. 15: Review chords & introduce 3 finger chords; Introduce rhythm patterns Session 3, Jul. 22: Practicing rhythm patterns; special techniques; putting it all together! No musical experience required. Ukuleles will be provided to participants, but you may bring your own if you have one. Recommended for ages 7 or Older . We will be providing Concert sized ukuleles (2 feet in length) which may be large for younger participants. Registration Required 10 Seats Total (there is a Waitlist if all registration is filled) Registration Opens Wednesday, June 24. Utilize old manga, comic, and graphic novel pages to create personalized bookmarks and picture frames. This hands-on workshop encourages participants to repurpose pages from their favorite stories into unique and creative decor. More Information about the Contest The Graphic Novel Making Contest (GNMC) was developed in 2008 as a teen program at a single branch library in recognition of growing interest in graphic novels and graphic arts. Inspired by participants’ enthusiasm and the quality of art, the contest grew into a system-wide annual tradition, open to participants of all ages and all California residents. The contest concludes with an awards ceremony to celebrate the creative efforts of all participants, announce the contest winners, and offer inspirational messages from guest speakers in the comics industry. Reading Buddies creates a positive reading experience for beginning and developing readers and helps children build confidence as readers. Our reading coach will listen to children read and provide support in phonics, sight words, and comprehension. Students can bring their favorite book or choose from the available selection at the Alviso Branch Library to read aloud to their reading coach. Free. Registration not required . Join us to create a 3D printed magnetic frog! Participants can choose a 3D shape from Tinkercad and design a space for a magnet to be placed. Tutorial guides are provided to learn the design process Designs to be printed have to be within the measurements set by the librarian. Prints are subject to approval by librarian. Not all prints will be made the day of the program so participants are encouraged to return to pick up their prints later in the week. Free. This is also a great way to clear fines at $20 per hour to clear any fines you may have on your account. The Alviso Friends of the Library President will be present to guide and detail what needs to be done for the day. Want to help more? Become a regular Friends of the Library helper. Details and Requirements: Must be able to commit at least 1-hour of volunteering, up to 2 hours max. Must be at least 13 years old or older to volunteer for this opportunity.
