Volunteer Away Your Fines as a Branch Buddy

Every now and then, libraries need a little extra love from the communities they serve. Volunteer away your fines at a rate of $20 per hour while helping the library maintain a clean and welcoming environment. Volunteers are needed to help with: Book cover cleaning - Use disinfecting wipes to reinvigorate dingy books Children's toys cleanup - Use disinfecting wipes to disinfect children's toys Material inspection - Check books for torn pages, pen marks, etc. Tabletop/windows/grounds cleanup - Help reinvigorate our branch by wiping down tabletops, cleaning dusty windows, and picking up litter and sweeping outside the library. Storytime is designed to accommodate a mix of ages and invites the entire family to participate in early literacy activities such as stories, songs, rhymes, fingerplays, and movement activities. Storytime is a fun and interactive experience for the whole family that promotes the joys of reading and learning for all ages. This program is geared for children of all ages and their parents/caregivers! Free, with limited capacity. As we navigate pandemic life, here are a few modifications to our Storytime: Seating for Storytime is available on a first-come, first-served basis. A limited number of tickets will be distributed at the Information Desk 60 minutes prior to the start of Storytime. A second Storytime session will follow the first if the first session reaches maximum capacity of 50 participants. This program is developed to align with the Early Education Quality Standards . Help your child build confidence and strengthen their Spanish reading skills in a fun and supportive environment! Children in kindergarten through 3rd grade are invited to read aloud in Spanish to a trained teen volunteer who will offer encouragement and help with pronunciation when needed. Whether your child is a fluent Spanish reader or is still building their confidence, Reading Buddy in Spanish provides a welcoming space to practice reading skills, celebrate bilingual literacy, and foster a lifelong love of reading—especially for students enrolled in dual-language immersion programs. Utilize old manga, comic, and graphic novel pages to create personalized bookmarks and picture frames. This hands-on workshop encourages participants to repurpose pages from their favorite stories into unique and creative decor. More Information about the Contest The Graphic Novel Making Contest (GNMC) was developed in 2008 as a teen program at a single branch library in recognition of growing interest in graphic novels and graphic arts. Inspired by participants’ enthusiasm and the quality of art, the contest grew into a system-wide annual tradition, open to participants of all ages and all California residents. The contest concludes with an awards ceremony to celebrate the creative efforts of all participants, announce the contest winners, and offer inspirational messages from guest speakers in the comics industry.
