The Friends of the Almaden Library is hosting their annual used book sale for children.  If you are looking for gently-books for your children, this is a fun place to visit and check out.  The book sale will be held on the same day of our weekly family storytime at Almaden at 10:15 am, so that you can come with your little ones for fun stories, songs and read alouds, then drop by the sale to shop for some books. Storytime is designed to accommodate a mix of ages and invites the entire family to participate in early literacy activities such as stories, songs, rhymes, fingerplays, and movement activities. Storytime is a fun and interactive experience for the whole family that promotes the joys of reading and learning for all ages. This program is geared for children of all ages and their parents/caregivers! Free, with limited capacity. Seating for Storytime is available on a first-come, first-served basis. A limited number of tickets will be distributed at the Information Desk before Storytime.  A second Storytime will be held if many families miss the first one. Learn about teen volunteer opportunities  by attending our monthly meetings - every SECOND Friday of each month. Teens Reach is the youth council for the San José Public Library, providing a key way for young adults to build their leadership skills by developing and participating in library activities, as well as becoming library advisors and advocates. Storytime with AAC

Enhance your child's communication with "Storytime with AAC"!  This program is designed for children with disabilities who use, or would benefit from, means of communication other than their voice. They use AAC devices, iPads, pictures, pointing, or exchanging pictures to communicate. It is designed for emergent communicators five years old and up (emergent communicators are new/existing AAC users who typically communicate with single words). Open to children of all abilities!  A parent/caregiver must accompany the child for all the sessions. Due to limited seating, we request that only 1 caregiver per child attend. *This program is conducted in collaboration with Something To Say and with support from students in the Speech Language Pathology Program at San José State University. Do you want to lead a program at the library? Do you have a passion for science or math, or coding skills you would like to share? Come to our Teen Program Incubator for feedback on how to turn your ideas into an engaging program. Participants will both give and receive feedback and mentorship from other teens and from branch librarians. Interested in being involved with a program but not sure what? We will help connect you with others with similar interests so you can develop a program together. Programs developed at our Incubator may be presented as part of our After-School STEaM series (preferred), or possibly as a standalone program on a Saturday. Participants will learn what binary code is and its role in any computer. They will learn to count in binary and then use their new knowledge to encode and decode English alphabetic characters, illustrating how computers are designed to communicate information. Participants will also make a Binary Name Bracelet with beads to take home with them. Free.
