Join the South Boston Branch Book Club! We are a book group for adults that read a mix of fiction and nonfiction once a month. July's book will be A Murder for Miss Hortense by Mel Pennant. This cozy mystery is set amongst the Windrush generation of Jamaican immigrants in the United Kingdom, who were invited in the postwar years to help fill post-war labor shortages and rebuild the economy. Jamaican born Miss Hortense is a retired nurse, avid gardener, and renowned cake maker and gets sucked into mysterious deaths around from an organization she helped form. Wingmasters: A Presentation of Live Birds

Birds are not just related to dinosaurs; they are dinosaurs! Modern birds evolved from small, carnivorous dinosaurs in the Late Jurassic period. Wingmasters rehabilitate raptors that include eagles, hawks, falcons, and owls. This presentation will incorporate five live birds. Children aged 6-12 will learn about conservation efforts for these wild animals. Summer Reading at the BPL is generously supported by the Boston Public Library Fund.
