We’re teaming up with the Friends of Cycling in Elk Grove to encourage you to add more biking to your summer. Sign up for the “I Can Bike There!” Summer Challenge for a chance to win a gift card! Did you know most trips you take by car are less than 3 miles? Why not bike there instead? From everyday errands and quick trips to fun-filled solo or family adventures, enjoy all the health and economic benefits of biking more! Sign up for our Summer Challenge and get a chance to win a $50 or $25 gift card! Sign up at the Adult Reference Desk or email Nancy at nbroten@egvpl.org. Get all the details, including a Challenge Checklist and Log Sheet, at the Adult Reference Desk or have it emailed to you. The Challenge Checklist includes great ideas for easy local rides, and other helpful information. Log your bike rides all summer long, and return your log sheet by Monday, August 31 for a chance to win either a $50 gift card (randomly drawn from all submitted log sheets) or a $25 7-Mile Cycles gift card (awarded to the person with the most points). If you like, share pictures or stories of your rides with us to earn extra points. Everyone who signs up can receive an "I Can Bike There!" water bottle and EGVPL "Bike to the Library" sticker. Look to our summer reading program for an array of books as vast and diverse as these great United States of America. Declare your independence by choosing books from 13 colonial lists of Patriotic Picks, from riveting Revolutionary Reads to amazing stories about Awesome Americans. Complete five books to receive a T-shirt even the Founding Fathers would be proud of. For each book you read, earn a raffle ticket to enter in our prize drawings. Register at the Adult Reference Desk or on Beanstack starting June 8.

Using interview and performance clips, Gary Wenstrup traces Willie’s journey from small-town Texas and his struggles in Nashville to Outlaw Country and legendary status. Honoring America 250 Willie is the face, the heart and the soul of country music…and he’s still going strong. In 2024 he celebrated his 91st birthday and released his 76th album solo album! Using interview and performance clips, Gary Wendstrup will trace the arc of Willie’s career from his humble beginnings in small town Texas to his struggles in Nashville to his shift to Outlaw Country to his now legendary status. We’ll cover all the big hits including “Crazy,” “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain,” “On The Road Again,” and “Always On My Mind.”
