This self-guided exhibit explores how freedom in the United States has evolved since 1776 through historical documents and images from the Gilder Lehrman Collection. Explore how the meaning of freedom in the United States has grown and changed over time. Drawing on materials from the Gilder Lehrman Collection, this self-guided exhibit examines key moments in U.S. history since 1776. Through historical documents and images, visitors will see how different generations have defined, challenged, and expanded the promise of freedom. The exhibit invites reflection on the nation’s ongoing journey and encourages viewers to consider what freedom means today.
