This presentation will focus on recognizing early cognitive changes associated with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, including how these differ from normal aging. It will highlight practical strategies for reducing risk and maintaining brain health, as well as the importance of early diagnosis in accessing treatment, planning for the future, and supporting patients and families. Introduction to American Sign Language (ASL) *

Learn basic American Sign Language with Sarah Bright! This series will introduce attendees to letters and numbers, simple requests and questions, basic vocabulary, and a few basic conversations. The classes are free but registration is required. Signing up for one class registers you for all three sessions offered on Friday, July 10, 17, and 24. Meet the Instructor Sarah Bright (M.A. CCC-SLP) received her Bachelor’s in Communication Disorders from Western Kentucky University and her Master’s from the University of Memphis in Speech-Language Pathology. She is a certified Speech Language Pathologist, working with patients with Down Syndrome, AU, and other genetic disorders. She has a certificate in ASL and is a former member of ASLO. When she’s not working, Sarah enjoys baking, reading, and playing tennis. Sarah is passionate about helping others and is excited to share her knowledge of ASL! Be amazed and entertained by Galen Harp! The Institute of Jugglology was created to destroy the myth that what goes up must come down. So far they have failed miserably, but they are stubborn, and not likely to let gravity have the last word. Come rebel against gravity with the Institute of Jugglology. Galen Harp is a performance art juggler based in Arkansas and working wherever gravity has an effect. His work as the Institute of Jugglology focuses on using object manipulation to draw out and explore the relationships humans have with objects. The Institute of Jugglology’s work has been featured all over North America, including Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, El Paso Museum of Art, and the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute. Explore the art of natural dyeing in this hands-on, creative workshop! Participants will learn a variety of tie-dye techniques using eco-friendly, plant-based materials to create one-of-a-kind wearable pieces. Through guided instruction from U of A School of Art students, participants will experiment with different tying methods to produce unique patterns, as well as explore dyeing techniques such as bundle dye, dip dye, and ice dye. Using natural dyes derived from plants and organic materials, this activity encourages creativity while introducing sustainable art practices. Each participant will design and dye a bandana or T-shirt—perfect, personalized items for summer. No prior experience is needed, and materials will be provided while they last. Participants can bring something from home, too, whether that be an old t-shirt, tote bag, or other fabric item they would like to repurpose and customize during the session.
