Color Me Calm: A Coloring Club for Adults
Source
Buena Vista Branch Library
Adult coloring is a great way to relax, promote mindfulness, and allow creativity. Color Me Calm is a program geared toward adults who want to slow down and reduce anxiety while coloring. Drop in and join us as we learn some mindfulness tips and relax, color, and meet new people. All supplies provided. Join us in the Community Room at Buena Vista Branch Library. REDUCE STRESS AND ANXIETY Coloring has the ability to relax the fear center of your brain, the amygdala. It induces the same state as meditating by reducing the thoughts of a restless mind. This generates mindfulness and quietness, which allows your mind to get some rest after a long day at work. IMPROVE MOTOR SKILLS AND VISION Coloring goes beyond being a fun activity for relaxation. It requires the two hemispheres of the brain to communicate. While logic helps us stay inside the lines, choosing colors generates a creative thought process. IMPROVE SLEEP We know we get a better night’s sleep when avoiding engaging with electronics at night, because exposure to the emitted light reduces your levels of the sleep hormone, melatonin. Coloring is a relaxing and electronic-free bedtime ritual that won’t disturb your level of melatonin. IMPROVE FOCUS Coloring requires you to focus, but not so much that it’s stressful. It opens up your frontal lobe, which controls organizing and problem solving, and allows you to put everything else aside and live in the moment, generating focus. New in 2026! Color Me Calm is also at Buena Vista Branch Library: February 12, 6 - 8pm March 5, 6 - 8pm April 2, 6 - 8pm May 7, 6 - 8pm June 11, 6 - 8pm July 9, 6 - 8pm August 6, 6 - 8pm September 3, 6 - 8pm October 1, 6 - 8pm November 12, 6 - 8pm December 3, 6 - 8pm

What is Vardavar? Armenia’s most famous modern festivals predates both Spain’s La Tomatina and Italy’s Battle of Oranges. It draws upon the Christian tradition of the Transfiguration, with origins dating as far back as the Pagan observance of the goddess Astghik. Some say “Vardavar” comes from vard, the Armenian word for “rose” and others link it to older roots like vadar (water) and arr (splash). Either way, the name hints at the same thing: a celebration of water and joy!
