DNA-Based Relationship Estimators and Analyzers - VIRTUAL

Explore the tools and methodologies used in genetic genealogy to estimate and analyze relationships between individuals based on DNA data. Join Blaine Bettinger, Ph.D., J.D., a professional genealogist specializing in DNA evidence and the use of artificial intelligence for genealogical research. Author of the long-running blog The Genetic Genealogist, Blaine will discuss the science behind how relationship estimators analyze shared DNA segments to predict familial connections. Attendees will learn to interpret DNA match results, utilize relationship prediction tools effectively, and address common challenges, such as outliers. By integrating these advanced DNA analysis techniques, genealogists can enhance their research, solve complex family mysteries, and validate traditional genealogical findings. This program is presented in partnership with the North Suburban Genealogical Society. This event will be held live online using Zoom. With even the smaller lit mags racking up thousands of submissions each season, how do we make our stories stand out from the crowd and capture the attention of editors and readers alike? In this session, writer Steve Trumpeter will explore the elements of craft that inject life and energy into our short stories and essays. We’ll discover ways to generate fresh ideas and learn to identify the elements of our writing that amplify our own unique voices. We’ll also focus on revision techniques that can transform our rough drafts into ready-to-send submissions. This seminar is for writers of all levels and will include discussion, generative prompts and opportunity for Q&A. This workshop is in partnership with StoryStudio Chicago. This program will be held virtually on Zoom.
