Plant a Seed, Read!: Beanstack Reading Challenge
Source
Virtual
We’ve planned some page-turning adventures this summer! Get ready to grow your imagination and harvest rewards all summer long. Get ready to dig in! This year’s summer reading program, Plant a Seed, Read , is inspired by the farm-to-table movement. This year’s theme celebrates how things grow. Farms grow food that fuels our bodies. Libraries grow ideas that feed our minds. Both connect us to family, culture, community, and the world around us. When you plant a seed or open a book, you nurture something amazing. All summer long, we’ll be cultivating fun with live performers, hands-on fairy garden creations, visits from real (and pretend!) farm animals, and plenty of surprises still waiting to sprout. But that’s just the beginning. Sign up and start earning rewards for reading (or listening!) to books, audiobooks, and magazines—it all counts. Track your progress at myAPL.beanstack.org, in the Beanstack app, or with a printed reading log available at any library location. Log in to Beanstack daily to record your reading and keep your streak growing! You can enter minutes, books, or pages. Strive to meet the challenge's goal, flex your brain, and push to do just a bit more. The goal for Adults (18+) is to read three books, and the goal for Read to Me (0-5) is 20 books. Something new for this year is that Kids (6-11) and Teens (12-18) are challenged to read 30 days of the summer. Experts recommend 15-20 minutes of sustained reading per day. You will earn a badge in Beanstack for every three days that you read, which is also a chance for the grand prize. When you hit the halfway mark of 15 days, you earn a chance to pull a reward from our prize bins. Reach 30 days and receive completion prizes for meeting the reading goal - while supplies last. The more you read, the more chances you have to win one of the grand prizes. Readers can earn up to 24 chances to win one of our Grand Prize drawings at the end of the summer. Adult Grand Prize: A cast-iron, enamel Dutch oven, a copy of the cookbook Bayou by Melissa Martin, and an assortment of local spices and pantry goods. Teen Grand Prize: Bluetooth Shower Speaker Kids Grand Prize: Mini Greenhouse Gardening Kit Read to Me Grand Prize: Play Tent The last day to log your summer reading is Friday, July 31. The challenge begins Thursday, May 22.
