Join Jorge Banales as he gives free instruction on the Yang Style 24 Movement Tai Chi form on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month. Free and open to the public. Tai Chi movements can be practiced by people of all ages and, as the form involves balanced walking, it results in a relaxed aerobic exercise for major muscle groups and the circulatory system. The practice of Tai Chi also benefits the mind, and learning the form, with keen awareness of body movements and balance, leads to an increase in mental sharpness. All levels are welcome, to stretch, breathe and cultivate connections with body-heart-mind-spirit This class is rooted in the classical teachings of Sri Dharma Mittra and builds upon the foundational sequence to gently explore new depths of practice. Like all Dharma Yoga, this advanced beginner-to-intermediate level sequence blends the physical discipline of hatha yoga with the meditative and introspective qualities of raja yoga, using posture (asana), breathwork (pranayama), and meditation to promote vitality, inner stillness, and radiant peace. Students will be guided through Surya Namaskar (sun salutations) and a slightly more dynamic variation of Shiva Namaskar (held poses), with options offered throughout to support students of all levels. Expect a complete and balanced practice that may also include mantras, guided deep relaxation in savasana, and alternate-nostril breathing (nadi shodhana) to calm the nervous system. This sequence remains accessible to all levels, including beginners. Facilitator Bio Irene Tapanti, PhD, is a molecular biologist and interdisciplinary artist specializing in restorative arts and sound-based wellbeing. She holds a doctorate in bioscience and has over a decade of experience with contemplative practices and community-based creative programs. Her approach integrates scientific understanding of stress regulation with accessible, evidence-informed relaxation methods. Iréne is trained in sound therapy and is committed to culturally respectful, inclusive, and community-centered programming. Program Flow Welcome and overview Brief educational segment on sound, stress, and the nervous system Floor opens briefly for sharing Aromatherapy, guided breathing, light tapping, and grounding techniques (optional) 45-minute sound journey Integration and closing reflections/sharing Participant Guidelines Attendees should bring: A yoga mat Comfortable clothing Blanket and pillow Water bottle Optional eye mask Optional face mask if sessions are held during peak illness season Chairs can be provided for patrons who prefer not to lie on the floor.
