Free Summer Meals for Kids: Provided by Steilacoom Historical School District

Steilacoom Historical School District's Summer Food Service Program for children provides daily meals on weekdays to kids 1-18 years of age. Meals will be served every weekday at the Steilacoom Pierce County Library between 11:45am and 12:00pm by the Steilacoom Historical School District's Summer Food Service Program staff. After the truck departs, children and families are invited to enjoy their meal on the library's lawn or in the library. Get up close and personal with amazing bugs from around the world. Explore more than 2,100 amazing insects in 24 museum cases. Beautiful butterflies, giant beetles and creepy spiders from around the world are displayed for your viewing pleasure. Also view an assortment of unique live bugs! Insect Safari is a program in three parts: a discussion of Arthropod classifications, exploration of the collection display, and a question and answer session while looking at live specimens.

Stop by to hang out, try something fun or just take a break. Each session is a little different, games, crafts, snacks or whatever feels right that day. It’s relaxed and just for teens. Beat summer boredom by trying a variety of DIY projects! Paint a tote bag, make a decoupage bookmark or create a zine. You can also enjoy some snacks, play a board game or a round of Smash Bros on the Switch, or just hang out. Snacks provided by the University Place Friends of the Library.

Welcome to the STEAM for Kids Discovery Lab, where kids dive into science, technology, engineering, art and math through hands-on activities, experiments and creative challenges. Programs are designed to spark curiosity, build confidence and support child-led exploration. Each STEAM Discovery Lab session may look a little different - read on or check with your library for details! Design a miniature terrarium for a dinosaur or dragon scene, using moss, rocks, and plants. Supplies provided.

Street Medicine Service: Provided by Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department

The TPCHD Street Medicine Team provides medical care and health-related resources to those in our community who are experiencing homelessness. Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department’s Street Medicine Team delivers medical care to those in our community experiencing homelessness. Services range from wound care and infection testing and treatment to chronic disease management and substance use disorder support. Our unhoused neighbors can meet with the team’s medical providers in a designated room in the library. This service is available to anyone who does not have permanent housing. Parent or legal guardian consent is required for service to anyone under 18.
