The Beacons of Brew City Traveling Exhibit honors eight living LGBTQ elders who have made significant lifetime contributions to Metro Milwaukee. The Beacons of Brew City honors eight living LGBTQ elders who have made significant lifetime contributions to Metro Milwaukee. This exhibit honors entertainers, organizers, philanthropists, business owners, faith leaders, healthcare advocates, chefs, culture keepers, storytellers, and public servants who have supported critical LGBTQ causes, events, and organizations for decades -- often as unsung heroes who didn't expect or receive recognition of any kind. The Beacons of Brew City project is dedicated to Milwaukee pioneer Eldon Murray (1930-2007,) who used his privilege to foster the formation, mobilization, and advancement of the LGBTQ community for over four decades. Almost every LGBTQ organization that exists in Milwaukee today can trace its roots back to Eldon Murray's trailblazing leadership. This exhibit is made possible by the Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project.

Pairing photographs of the Frank family with historical images, the exhibit shows how targeted people were affected by the political actions of individuals and groups during World War II. Presented in partnership with The Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center and the Anne Frank Center at the University of South Carolina. Anne Frank: A History for Today, an acclaimed international exhibition developed by the Anne Frank House (Amsterdam). Through personal photographs, intimate family history, and historical context, visitors encounter Anne Frank not only as a symbol of the Holocaust but as a thoughtful, creative young person whose voice still speaks to the world. Pairing photographs of the Frank family with historical images, the exhibit shows how targeted people were affected by the political actions of individuals and groups during World War II. This exhibit will be on display at Central Library on second floor Main Street through August 11.

Havenwoods State Forest is Wisconsin’s only urban state forest, featuring over 6 miles of trails and 237 acres of grasslands, woods and wetlands in the City of Milwaukee. The Walking Book Club meets on the second Thursday of each month over the summer. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
