To mark America's 250th Anniversary, illustrator, author and Advanced Cicerone Em Sauter will give an illustrated presentation discussing the role of beer and brewing in American history at the Windsor Public Library on Thursday, July 9 at 6:30 PM. Starting from the Pilgrims landing on Plymouth Rock (because they were out of beer!) to the modern craft brewery movement and the beers we love today, beer has been woven through the fabric of American history.
Bio: Em Sauter is an award-winning cartoonist, international beer judge, Advanced Cicerone, public speaker and founder of Pints and Panels, a website she launched in 2010 to focus on visual drinks education. A Connecticut resident, Em has authored four books on beer and is currently working on a fifth book about whiskey.

Calligraphy that inspired a nation: Learn to write like America’s founders

The Windsor Public Library welcomes Debby Reelitz back for a 90 minute program that will teach patrons how people wrote during the colonial period; what they wrote with and wrote on. Using a projector, Debby will share pictures of famous colonists, their desks and writing. Samples will range from Phillis Wheatley to George Washington to John Hancock. Next, all the participants will learn how to set up their own writing desk, paper, nibs and ink. Lettering samples and instructions will be provided so participants can write in cursive with dip nib and ink. The end goal is to create a signature for themselves that is inspired by signatures from colonial times.

Join us at the Peabody Museum in New Haven for a field trip where children and their caregivers will be able to take a geology workshop free of charge.
Uncover the Story of Life and Landscapes! Participants journey through Earth’s 4.5-billion-year history using real fossils to identify major geologic eras. Working together, they investigate specimens and connect ancient life to changing landscapes. The program deepens understanding of fossils, extinction, and Earth’s evolving systems.
