"Alexandria 'Alix' Watson has learned one lesson from her barren childhood in the foster-care system: unlike people, books will never let you down. Working three dead-end jobs to make ends meet and knowing college is a pipe dream, Alix takes nightly refuge in the high-vaulted reading room at the Boston Public Library, escaping into her favorite fantasy novels and dreaming of far-off lands. Until the day she stumbles through a hidden door and meets the Librarian: the ageless, acerbic guardian of a hidden library where the desperate and the lost escape to new lives--inside their favorite books. The Librarian takes a dazzled Alix under her wing, but before she can escape into the pages of her new life, a shadowy enemy emerges to threaten everyone the Astral Library has ever helped protect" -- Provided by publisher

GSBC Monthly Program - Honor Flight South Florida Honor Flight South Florida is a volunteer organization recognizing veterans in Broward, Dade, and Monroe counties with a one-day trip to Washington D.C. to visit memorials dedicated to military service and sacrifice. With priority for WWII veterans, this all-expense-paid trip includes airfare, transportation throughout Washington with police escorts, meals, and other amenities needed to travel comfortably. This is genealogy in action: identifying, documenting, and honoring our family’s national service while they are still with us. Featured Speaker Bob Atkins, Veteran Recruitment Committee Chair. Bob’s father was a WWII pilot, and his mother was also an aviator who earned her pilot’s license in a government sponsored training program. Bob attended college on the G.I. Bill after serving in the U.S. Army as a helicopter crew chief in Vietnam in 1967-68. He holds a commercial pilot’s license.
