Come From Away: Telling the Stories of Immigrant Experiences

Source

104 South Bradford Ln, Georgetown, KY, 40324, US

Come From Away: Telling the Stories of Immigrant Experiences. Immigration is a watershed event in the life of a family or individual, and each experience is rich in what is left behind and what is brought along to the new land. Dr. Jeffrey Rice, professor of writing, rhetoric and digital studies with the University of Kentucky is also a talented storyteller, and he brings his skills to us in sharing his own and his family's experience of leaving their old world behind and coming to a new land. If you share an immigrant experience of your own or are just curious about human stories, settle in for an afternoon of memory and family stories. This event is presented as part of the Yiddish Book Center's Public Libraries Program, a partnership with the American Library Association, and made possible by the Lilly Endowment, Inc

Record Your Story with SCPL. Do you have some great stories you would like to pass on to friends or family? How about memories, descriptions of childhood homes, or recipes? From March through November, you will have a chance to reserve a time slot in our recording studio to interview a loved one or record yourself or a group of friends and take away a copy to give as a gift. This is a great way to preserve a fragile part of your personal history and future family members will love to hear memories given in a loved one's voice. Storytelling and memory are an important part of Yiddish culture, so as part of our months' long celebration of that culture, we want to offer this chance to our patrons. Every Wednesday from 1:00 - 3:00 the recording studio will be available, but those who wish to use it for this purpose must reserve a date and specific time. Call our number at 502-863-3566 to reserve your time in 30 minute, 45 minute, and 1 hour blocks.
