HPL Hydrangea Festival Tours 2026
Source
Hyannis Public Library is participating in Hydrangea Festival Tours to benefit the Library! These tours are part of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce’s Hydrangea Festival.
Explore two beautiful gardens in Hyannis and one in Centerville during the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce’s Hydrangea Festival and support the Hyannis Public Library! Each tour is $5, payable at the garden.
181 Chase Street (7/10 & 7/13)
Welcome to “Cape Cottage” located at 181 Chase Street in Hyannis. Meander along winding gravel pathways through this organic perennial garden bursting with life, where every turn holds a delightful surprise. This eclectic, colorful oasis is a whimsical blend of vibrant flowers, sculptures and unexpected hidden vignettes for you to enjoy.
278 Gosnold Street (7/11 & 7/13)
Close to the Sea Street end of Gosnold Street in Hyannis, visitors will find an attractive Cape Cod home surrounded by an inviting and lush landscape. Centered in the front yard is an island of lovely plantings showcasing hostas, shrubs, and other eye-catching perennials. On the left-hand side of the home, where guests will begin their tour of the impressive grounds, graceful dappled willows, day lilies, and beautiful hydrangeas will point the way. The graceful curve of the outer perimeter boasts an abundant display of the gorgeous blue hydrangeas for which Cape Cod is so famous. The spectacle continues all along the back yard. Complementing the colorful scene, are reliable hostas and smoothly trimmed dappled willows. Upon arriving at the sparkling in-ground pool, there is yet another show of lovely shrubs, perennials, and annuals. Circling back to the front of the home one can enjoy the double presentation of the signature blue hydrangeas and equally colorful day lilies. Oh! And before you leave make sure you take notice of the clever dose of Vitamin Sea!
359 Main Street, Centerville (7/11 & 7/13)
Once you’ve arrived and we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming you, visitors are invited to meander down the winding tree-lined driveway which opens upon a glorious display of trees, shrubs, flowers, and the very best of Mother Nature. A humble sign presents the owners’ philosophy: “Welcome to Santosha Gardens, a sanctuary to cultivate awareness of our connection to nature & a refuge of kindness for all living beings.” Keeping this in mind, all gardeners and nature lovers will have the opportunity to experience a trek through a landscape of beauty, color, fragrance, and sounds. Surrounding this home and encompassing a large swath of acreage, the natural environment has been carefully planned, developed and cultivated over the years, the goal being to enjoy the blooms of nature from spring buds through fall mums. July is peak, so enjoy! The back yard of this property is a wide canvas of lovely perennials and colorful annuals. While strolling along curving pathways, visitors can appreciate an abundance of hydrangeas, hostas, roses, day lilies, clover, astilbe, and many other beautiful species. Several raised beds produce a harvest of fruits and vegetables while peach trees, pear trees and blueberry bushes add to the eclectic mix of ornamentals and edibles. This sanctuary of nature, home to bees, butterflies, and birds, is a sweet hideaway seemingly far off the beaten path. Come and visit. You won’t be disappointed.
The Hydrangea Festival tours are $5 per garden, purchased on site (cash or check accepted). All proceeds benefit the Hyannis Public Library.

Novel Writing Seminar

Hyannis Public Library, 401 Main Street, Hyannis, MA, 02601, United States
Calling all aspiring novel writers on Cape Cod!
Joseph Gibbs, is coming back to Hyannis Public Library to share his writing skills!
Join us on Saturdays in June and July of 2026 for a FREE weekly novel writing workshop and seminar!
When author Joseph Gibbs was working on his debut novel “Frank” (Brogan Camden, 2022), he had two high-profile literary mentors. The first was John Knowles, author of the 1960 coming-of-age novel “A Separate Peace”. Gibbs told in an interview that “He would read my work, and direct me and mentor me on my writing.”
Gibbs’ second mentor was Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian Doris Kearns Goodwin. When he completed a draft of “Frank,” Gibbs gave it to Doris to read, “and she was thrilled with it.” Gibbs ended up living in the Goodwins’ house in Concord while rewriting his novel. “I tend to write in the early morning hours — I feel most clear-headed at that time. In the dark cold of Concord winter, I would often run into Doris in the very early morning, and we would go off to write.” Later in the morning, Gibbs would join the couple for breakfast, “and then everyone would go to separate rooms to continue writing.”

Live Music for Families and Kids
Monday, July 20 @ 11:00 a.m.
Robert Markowitz entertains all with comedic and educational music. Robert’s musical shows range from Old McDonald to Disney, sing-alongs to rock’n’roll, all amidst an entertaining blend of comedy and movement. One song mixes a bedtime lullaby with a rhythmic jumping song. In another, the ants go marching into a spider and then must duck and hide.
Robert alternates sitting and standing, high energy and tranquility, music and comedy, singing and moving, well-tested original material and old favorites. His material masquerades as pure entertainment but is also aimed at teaching basic music competency, rhythmically and tonally.
