Families & Kids birth to 5 years Mary Knapp's music class builds foundational rhythm, song and social skills for all ages and stages of early childhood. We will tell stories, remix favorite songs, learn new international tunes, and move in creative ways. Mary’s music classes are designed for you the adult as much as they are for your children - for you to feel you are in a safe space where music is neither polished nor dull, but instead spontaneous, multifaceted and fun. Geared for young children, but all kids are welcome! *When registering for our programs, please count only the children attending when asked for the number of people attending. This helps us ensure we have enough materials for each child. Children will be placed in programs based on their age/grade, regardless of their ability. *Photographs and video footage taken during programs may be used for library publicity. Please tell library staff if you do not want a photo taken of you or your child.

This workshop, led by Marcos Martorano, LCSW, aims to explore diverse meditation techniques, enabling participants to choose the most suitable approach aligned with their personality. It will delve into the advantages of meditation practice and identify potential pitfalls that may hinder its full realization. The presentation will adopt a psychological perspective, deviating from the religious origins of meditation. At its essence, meditation seeks to gain control over thoughts and emotions rather than being controlled by them. As we delve deeper into our minds, our thoughts often appear chaotic; however, with consistent practice, we can cultivate greater focus and intentionality in our thinking. Meditation offers numerous benefits, including: - Stress reduction - Improved sleep quality - Decreased chronic pain - Alleviation of depression and anxiety - Cultivate a positive outlook on life - Enhanced interpersonal relationships Participants will have the opportunity to be guided through various techniques, enabling them to commence their meditation practice after completing the workshop. Marcos Martorano, LCSW, has been practicing and teaching meditation for over five decades. As a psychotherapist, he has imparted meditation in diverse settings, assisting individuals in overcoming various challenges in their lives.
