Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee

The Parks and Recreation Committee advises the City Council and Planning Commission on issues related to Hermiston’s physical parks and recreational facilities and programs. Members gather public input, review and recommend policies, operational and capital budget needs, as well as potential indoor and outdoor recreational spaces and programs for the community, to include acquisition, design, development, maintenance and promotions of all parks and recreation projects to the City Council to maximize the use and quality of local facilities and programs. Interested in Getting Involved?  Download An Application Meetings The committee meets with representatives from the City Council and Parks and Recreation Department on the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Center, with the exception of August and December.  Meeting minutes and agendas are available online. Hermiston Kids Triathlon

Swim, Bike, Run! This non-timed, non-competitive event provides an excellent opportunity for youth, ages 4-12, to experience the sport of Triathlon. A triathlon is a swimming, bicycling, and running event. Each triathlete will swim first, go directly to bicycling, and finish with running. This is a great opportunity for your child to participate in an enjoyable, low-key, youth event. The Hermiston Kids Triathlon is a noncompetitive event. NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. Participants are divided into waves based on age. Parents are encouraged to assist with any and all stages as needed. Saturday, July 25th, 2026! All 7-12 year old participants must be able to: • Swim 50 meters • Bike 1 mile • Run .75 mile All 4-6 year old participants must be able to: • Swim 50 feet (lifejackets available) • Bike .6 mile (training wheels ok) • Run .4 mile Registration opens in May.   Updated 07.17.2025
