Karankawa Coyote Clan brother, Absolem shares his knowledge of how the tribe made pottery using asphaltum, the sticky tar residue that sometimes washes up on the shore. Each participant will be given a small amount of air dry clay to see how they could fashion some pottery. Absolem will bring artifacts, pelts, and jewelry that children will be to handle in a respectful manner.

Drop in any time between 2:30 - 4:30 PM for a hands-on kids’ program to make a dreamcatcher with Children’s Librarian Heather Owens of the Chickasaw Nation. While not traditionally made by the Chickasaw, dreamcatchers are widely embraced across many Native American cultures, and through shared learning and creativity, participants will create their own to take home. Recommended for kids 6-12 and their families.

Siblings are welcome to attend. This is a series designed to build each week. Participants must be able to attend a minimum of 4 out of the 5 sessions. Readers are invited to a special late-night book club after the library has closed! Kids may be dropped off at the alley door as early as 6:50pm; staff will be waiting. Evening festivities to include book discussion with related activities; dinner included. Please send food if your child has any food restrictions. The night will conclude with a "backyard astronomy" mini program for the family presented by Regina Lillibridge, Park Ranger-Interpreter with Galveston Island State Park. Your family should meet us by Henry Rosenberg's statue at 9:15pm with the program concluding at 9:30pm. Please be punctual as we will be very tired by that time!
