Whether we're connecting with loved ones, managing appointments and finances, shopping, or enjoying our favorite hobbies, the internet has become an essential part of everyone's every day life. Just like in real life, it's important to know how to keep ourselves safe online. We'll focus on phishing, the most common type of online scam. The goal of a phishing scam is to get access to you personal information: passwords, social security information, answers to security questions. Sophisticated attacks camouflage themselves as trusted websites and urge victims to act quickly with a variety of socially-engineered ploys. Fortunately, once we learn to recognize these attacks, it is relatively simple to avoid them. We'll learn how to identify these scams, strategies to protect our personal information, and what to do when something feels off. Even better, we will learn how to do it without needing any previous technical knowledge or special skills. We invite you to a relaxed, welcoming session where you can ask questions, learn at your comfort level, and walk away feeling better equipped to enjoy the internet safely.
