Family Maker Time: Ceramics (ages 9 with adult)
Source
Headquarters Library Training Lab/Makerspace, Headquarters Library
Join us for a fun and creative ceramics class designed for children/teens and their adult caregivers! Use molds, texture tools, and underglaze to hand-build a unique ceramic piece together.
This class is perfect for adults who want to enjoy quality time with a child, teen or grandchild exploring the art of ceramics. Adults are welcome to create their own piece as well.
Important:
An adult must remain with their child(ren) throughout the class.
Please register each person who will be making a ceramic piece.
This project takes time to dry, bisque, glaze, and glaze fire. Expect an email around 3 weeks after class letting you know your pieces are ready for pickup.
All supplies are provided but feel free to bring in your own ceramic tools and items for adding texture if you would like. Plant clippings from your yard can make beautiful impressions in clay for example.
One last thing...please arrive on time. If there are waitlisted people who come, no-show seats will be opened to waitlisted registrants (in order of registration) at 10:10.

Source
Headquarters Library Training Lab/Makerspace, Headquarters Library
Discover the joy of drawing! This introductory class is designed for children and teens ages 9–17 and the adult who accompanies them. Please register each participant (both adults and children) so we can prepare enough materials for all participants.
Drawing foundations for youth begin with learning basic forms such as spheres, cubes, cones, cylinders, and prisms, which serve as the building blocks for more complex artwork. As students practice these forms, they develop confidence and strengthen their ability to express their creativity visually. Understanding line quality is another important skill, as different types of lines, including straight, curved, angular, and contour lines, add variety and expression to drawings. We’ll also learn about proportions and measurement, which help them create balanced and realistic relationships between objects in their artwork. Introducing value and shading teaches young artists how light and shadow create depth and dimension, making drawings appear more lifelike.
