Musical Moments - Drew Frech & Becky Schneider, banjo

Source

Reading Room

On Friday, July 10, the Musical Moments recital series at the Geneva Public Library will feature the Drew Frech / Becky Schneider duo performing on banjo. The program starts at 7:30 p.m., will last approximately an hour and is free and open to the public. Drew Frech is widely regarded as one of America’s finest banjoists as well as an acclaimed symphony violinist with deep musical family roots. He has been named the U.S. Open Banjo Champion, a distinction achieved through years of entertaining with his banjo at concerts, private parties, festivals, on cruise boats, and in concerts at Chautauqua and Carnegie Hall. He is also the current Program Director of the American Banjo Fraternity. Music was woven into the fabric of his life since childhood – growing up in a musical family of violinists, pianists, and banjoists! He is known for his prodigious American Songbook repertoire, as well as his exceptional vocal and entertaining style. Drew is uniquely versatile being equally at home under a conductor’s baton, swinging with jazz cats, or coaxing bright, upbeat energy from his banjo as a soloist. He currently resides in Sodus, N.Y. Becky Schneider is a retired Tool & Die Maker who currently resides in Williamson, N.Y. She is following her musical passion as a dedicated accompanist on the banjo and is currently the Librarian for The American Banjo Fraternity. Their program is titled "From Plantation to Parlors," the evolution of American Music, traced through the strings of its most defining instrument – The Banjo! Don’t miss a rare evening of musical alchemy that will live in your memory long after the last note fades! Musical Moments is long running, beloved concert series by local artists during the spring and fall. The Library is grateful to volunteer Tom McClure, who works hard to organize these events each year. Musical Moments is presented and funded by the Foundation for Geneva Public Library with support from dedicated volunteers. To find out more about volunteering, please visit here.
