Celebrate our birthday with this delightful musical movie about the lead up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence.. Lively musical numbers move the story along! Some of us may have seen 1776 on Broadway over the years--here is a chance to remember it! 1776 is a 1972 American historical musical drama film directed by Peter H. Hunt and written by Peter Stone, based on his book for the 1969 Broadway musical of the same name, with music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards.[4] Set in Philadelphia in the summer of 1776, it is a fictionalized account of the events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The film stars William Daniels, Howard da Silva, Donald Madden, John Cullum, Ken Howard and Blythe Danner. The movie is long so please try to be on time! AMERICA 250 MOVIE SERIES: HAMILTON

Source

North Community Room

See what all the fuss is about the Broadway musical Hamilton. This film version features the original Broadway cast! You are welcome to sing along! Hamilton narrates Alexander Hamilton's life in two acts, and details among other things his involvement in the American Revolutionary War as an aide-de-camp to George Washington, his marriage to Eliza Schuyler, his career as a lawyer and Secretary of the Treasury, and his interactions with Aaron Burr (the main narrator for most of the musical), which culminates in their duel that ends Hamilton's life. What makes this musical so wonderful is the smart use of language and rap along with lyrical songs to introduce today's Americans to the history of our democracy. This event is a part of the Bridgeport Public Library America's 250th Celebration series of programs. #America250
