TEEN HOUR: Treasure Hunt

Source

Makerspace Lab, Harrington Public Library

🗺️ Maps & Myths: The Great Library Quest Think you can navigate the line between history and legend? Join us at the Harrington Public Library for an after-hours adventure that’s part cartography, part scavenger hunt, and total chaos. We’re turning the stacks into a realm of hidden secrets and ancient lore. ⚔️ The Challenge This isn't your average "find a book" hunt. You’ll be competing in teams to master two distinct phases of the quest: Phase 1: The Cartographer’s Craft Before you can find the loot, you have to define the territory. Your team will design a cryptic, "mythical" map of a library section using tea-stained parchment and ink. Phase 2: The Mythic Relay Once the maps are set, the race begins! It’s a high-energy relay where you’ll decode riddles based on world mythology to find "relics" hidden deep within the shelves. Move fast—the first team to recover the "Cursed Idol" and return to base wins. Pro-Tip: Wear comfortable shoes. You can't outrun a Minotaur (or the opposing team) in flip-flops. Space is limited! Grab your compass and sign up at the front desk or via our website to claim your spot in the hunt. Will you find the treasure, or become part of the library’s myths?

TEEN HOUR: DIY Air Dry Fossil Necklace

Source

Makerspace Lab, Harrington Public Library

🦴 Relics & Resin: DIY Fossil Necklaces Capture a piece of prehistory and wear it home! Ever wanted to carry a bit of ancient history around your neck? Step into the role of a paleo-artist at the Harrington Public Library for a hands-on crafting session. We’re using air-dry clay and high-detail molds to create one-of-a-kind "fossilized" jewelry that looks like it was pulled straight from an archaeological dig. 🏺 The Workshop In this session, you’ll master the art of making faux-fossils that look incredibly realistic without the million-year wait. The Impression: Use air-dry clay to stamp out intricate designs—choose from classic ammonites, trilobites, raptor claws, or even mysterious "alien" skeletal remains. Aging Techniques: Learn how to use washes of paint and metallic pigments to give your clay the texture of weathered stone, petrified wood, or ancient bone. The Assembly: Once your fossil is set, we’ll show you how to cord and knot your piece into a rugged, adjustable necklace or a statement pendant. Bonus Challenge: Want to go "rogue"? Use our texture plates to create a fossil of something that shouldn't exist—perfect for fans of cryptozoology and weird legends. Claim your artifact! Sign up at the library circulation desk or visit our website to register. Don't let this event go extinct before you get your spot!

Source

Makerspace Lab, Harrington Public Library

📱 Scan the World: LiDAR Tech & STEaM Workshop Turn the real world into a digital playground! Your smartphone is capable of more than just scrolling—it’s a powerful 3D scanner. Join us at the Harrington Public Library for a high-tech workshop where we explore LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), the same technology used by self-driving cars and archaeologists to map hidden ruins. 🧊 The Digital Mission In this workshop, you’ll go from a physical space to a 3D model in minutes. We will explore how lasers and light can "see" the world around us. 3D Scanning 101: Use tablets and mobile devices to perform high-resolution room scans. Learn how to capture objects—from library statues to your own sneakers—as 3D digital assets. The STEaM Connection: Discover how LiDAR is revolutionizing industries. We’ll look at how these scans are used in video game design, 3D printing, and digital preservation. Clean & Export: Learn the basics of "cleaning" your digital clouds and how to prep a scan to be used in a virtual environment or sent to a 3D printer. The Creator Challenge: Once you've scanned an object, we’ll show you how to manipulate its scale—turn a small desk toy into a "giant" monument in a digital landscape. Step into the third dimension! Space in the tech lab is limited. Register at the library front desk or via our digital portal to secure your spot in the scan-fest.
