Town Forest Trailhead (at Cumberland Town Hall)

Let’s slow down and enjoy the beauty of our local trails. All walks are slow-paced and kid-friendly - all the better for noticing nature’s treasures. Meet at the Town Forest trailhead located adjacent to Town Hall, 290 Tuttle Road. We can read our way through the story walk as we take a closer look at the birds, plants, and insects who call this trail home. Bug spray and boots recommended! Registration is not required but will enable us to notify you should we cancel due to inclement weather.

PML Solarium

A read-aloud and discussion group for curious people. This group will explore poetry, short stories, plays, novels and non-fiction. Let’s build a community of readers and thinkers. Designed to be a "collective" experience, this group will take turns reading aloud and listening. Reading selections will be chosen in rotation. You don't have to be a "good reader" to participate; we all get better through practice. Join us! It'll be fun!

It's time for Touch a Truck! Come explore the big machines that we normally only admire from a distance. Kick the tires, sit in the driver's seat, and maybe even toot the horn! It's always a good time when the Police, Fire, and EMT departments show up! A great opportunity to say thank you for the services they provide for our community! This event is rain or shine and will be held outdoors in the parking lot of North Yarmouth Community Center: 120 Memorial Highway, North Yarmouth.

This particular group plays "American-style" mah jongg. How do you know what you play? If you play with a reference card that you renew each year, you play American. (The other style is "Asian". We have an Asian-style mah jongg group that meets on Thursday afternoons at 1 p.m.

Outside at PML

For littles ages 0-5 with caregivers. Water and messy play for littles. Water play, bubbles, shaving cream... we'll be busting out our messiest supplies. Because that's what summer is for. Please wear appropriate clothing, and consider bringing a towel and change of clothes. Waterworks Wednesdays are weather dependent. We will announce by 10 a.m. if we need to cancel because of rain (ironic, isn't it?).

Join us for an evening of campfire songs with local musician Robbie Neeb. We'll sing some familiar favorites and maybe learn a few new songs. Hang out on the back lawn. We're pitting adults vs. teens in the style of the classic game of Pictionary. Can you draw? No? No matter. It's more fun that way, anyway. Are we going to be a little fuzzy with the rules? You bet! Why not? More people is better. We need a minimum of six people to make this happen. Spread the word. Join us! (Register, and we'll have pizza and treats for everyone. Don't register, and you'll be snacking on crumbs.)

Longwoods Preserve, Cumberland

Let’s slow down and enjoy the beauty of our local trails. All walks are slow-paced and kid-friendly - all the better for noticing nature’s treasures. Meet at the LongWoods Preserve trailhead located adjacent to the parking lot at Wander, 76 Longwoods Road (Route 9). In addition to plentiful flora and fauna, this trail system features an art installation of 23 sculptural works installed throughout the trail system. Bug spray and boots recommended! Registration is not required but will enable us to notify you should we cancel due to inclement weather.

Knight's Pond Preserve (CCLT)

Are you curious about the natural world? Would you like to enhance your time outside and grow your ways of seeing what’s there? Join us to learn about nature journaling, a flexible practice available to anyone. Together we will consider the benefits of observing the natural world around us, get tips on how to start a nature journal, and share ideas that can help guide our entries. We will slow down and take time to notice what’s around us and note our discoveries. This hands-on workshop will meet at Knight's Pond Preserve, 477 Greely Rd. Extension, Cumberland. Meet in the parking lot. In case of rain, the event will be held at PML. Sukie Curtis is a Maine Master Naturalist and nature enthusiast, who is also a native plant nerd, a knitter, an occasional painter, a retired Episcopal priest, and a curious human being. She has lived in Cumberland for 34 years. Open to adults and high-school-aged teens. No artistic experience or skill necessary. Paper and pencils will be provided. Feel free to bring a journal, or any favorite drawing or water-based painting tools if you wish. Registration is limited and required for this workshop. If you are registering more than one individual, please register each person separately. Offered in collaboration with Chebeague and Cumberland Land Trust.
