Digital Photography for Teens

Source

Main Branch, Shurtleff Room and Mary Wilkins Freeman Room

This photography workshop offers teens the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of photography working with DSLR cameras, studio strobes, and professional lighting equipment. Teens will work one-on-one with cameras to understand core concepts such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO, composition, and lighting techniques. Through demonstrations and practice, teens will experiment with studio lighting setups and learn different lighting tools, depth, and how to create within an image. The workshop is designed to make photography accessible while introducing teens to the same tools and techniques used by professional photographers. Beyond technical skills, the program creates a collaborative learning environment where teens can explore creativity and learn alongside their peers. Working in a community encourages experimentation, confidence, and creative expression while promoting a supportive connection among teens. By bringing DSLR cameras, lighting equipment, and creative instruction directly into the teen space at the library, the workshop expands access to artistic resources that many young people may not otherwise have. The program empowers teens to see photography as both a creative outlet and a practical skill, inspiring them to document their communities, tell their stories, and explore new possibilities within the arts. Registration is required.
