Van Wyck Branch Library

Help your child get ready for kindergarten with a fun, interactive program that teaches children basic concepts through group activities, books and hands-on exploration. Note: The formal program lasts about 30 minutes. During the rest of the time, there will be free play with a craft and a different set of special KinderSTEM learning toys each week.

Join the Downtown Library and our friends from the Norfolk Animal Care Center as we take the time to read to some cuddly and loving animals in need of a good story! Every other Thursday during the Summer months we will have animals from dogs, cats, rabbits, and gerbils for kids to sit with and read a story of their choice! The trainers will also be there to help teach the readers on what are the best and safest ways to handle and engage with the animals. Spots are limited so register now so you have the chance to better your readings skills and cuddle with some furry friends! Please make sure children who are registered are between the ages of 4 - 13 as protocol by NACC. Downtown Branch Library Program Policy Programs begin 5 minutes after the scheduled start time. Any available program spots and supplies will be given away at that time on a first-come, first-served basis. Once begun, the program will progress as scheduled. Programs will not be paused or reversed, and instructions will not be repeated for late arrivals. Being on time for programs is the responsibility of the patron. No Call, No Show Policy for Registration-Required Programs The Downtown Branch Library is a public resource, and we try to provide services for as many patrons as possible. If a patron is a no-show/no-call for registration-required programs three times within the calendar year, programming staff will cancel that patron’s upcoming program registrations for the next thirty (30) days.
