Calling all builders! Drop in each month to tackle a special LEGO building challenge, this time: Build an ancient artifact (real or imagined) that might tell us a story about the past OR just build whatever you dream up! Creative constraint cards will be available for anyone looking to up the challenge and finished creations will be displayed in the library until the next session (one per participant please). Children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult.

Kolvoord Community Room

In an age of instant news reporting from every corner of our world, sometimes the sheer volume of information can feel overwhelming. This current events discussion group will attempt to quiet the noise and step back to reflect on what the news means, what is its context, and what the ramifications are. We will look at, reflect on, and analyze daily events and try to discern trends and understand the national picture and the larger world basing the discussion on factual information in a non-judgmental framework. This discussion group is free and open to all. Registration is not required.

Old dinosaur toys get a second life — and a lot more color — at this hands-on painting program for elementary explorers. Choose your dinosaur, pick your palette, and create a one-of-a-kind prehistoric creature inspired by the latest science on what dinosaurs really looked like.

Bring your toddlers and preschoolers to this play time outside near the pavilion. We will read one story and play with giant blocks, hoops, chalk, bubbles and water! Bring a towel or change of clothes. Inclement weather? We’ll play inside (minus the water toy). After accepting an invitation from Dr. John Hammond to review his new park, you find yourself trapped there, surrounded by hungry dinosaurs!  Work to hunt down clues throughout the island (aka the library) and solve puzzles to make your way to the mainland. Can you escape Isla Nublar before the Tyrannosaurus Rex gets you? This program is open to teens in grades 6 and up.

Stop by the Winnie Bell Maker Space in Youth Nonfiction to explore the art of movie sound effects and dream up your own prehistoric roar.
