For Ages 0-5 and their caregivers, held on the Brattleboro Commons. This lovely class is an enriching musical experience for toddlers and preschoolers, designed to support healthy cognitive, physical, and social development. Children will sing, clap, stomp, dance, and play along with the curriculum of traditional and modern folk songs. Parents will be encouraged to fully sing and participate with their child in the class. On rainy days, Sing & Dance will be held in the BML Community Meeting Room.

Workshop I: Observational Drawing: Bones & Feathers — Saturday, July 11 — REGISTER ONLINE Join River Gallery Teaching Artist, Kate Milliken, for a beginner-friendly observational drawing class. Participants will use animal bones and feathers as reference, and practice different observational drawing techniques to use drawing as a way to look closely and notice new and unexpected things about these natural forms. The class will be open to all levels, with a relaxed and social teaching style that supports newcomers and seasoned artists alike.   Unearth Your Creativity! Art Workshop Series Adult Summer Reading Program Workshop I: Observational Drawing: Bones & Feathers — Saturday, July 11 Workshop II: Make Your Own Natural Paintbox — Saturday, July 18 Workshop III: Walnut Ink Still Life with Vermont Stones — Saturday, August 15 Join us for a series of three nature-inspired classes designed for adults and youth ages 12 and up. These hour-and-a-half workshops will focus on the use of natural materials and the skill of close observation, a vital gift of drawing from life, which connects the visual arts with the sciences. Throughout these workshops, the emphasis is on learning how to see the natural world through a new lens. Drawing from observation and using local materials will foster a deeper connection between art and science while contributing to the understanding of our local environment. Participants are welcome to attend one or all workshops, and all sessions are free. Registration is required. The Annual Friends of the Library Garden Party is back! Enjoy delicious refreshments in a spectacular garden with your library friends. Your ticket price includes an array of desserts, drinks, and best of all, goes to support all the great things the Friends of the Library provide! Tickets are $15 and are available at the library ahead of time, or upon arrival at the party. Purchase or reserve your tickets at the library by 4pm on Saturday, July 11. Cash or check only. Proceeds from the event will help make possible the support of a wide array of programs and services offered by the library. These include museum passes, summer reading programs, Sing and Dance with Robin for pre-schoolers, access to resources such as Kanopy (films) and Mango (language study), programming for all ages, and more! Advance ticket purchases are appreciated. The location is in Brattleboro, 10 minutes from the library. Address provided upon ticket purchase or reservation.

The Sci-Fi Reading Group will meet in the Quiet Reading Room from 7:00pm – 8:30pm to discuss Sunward by William Alexander! Captain Tova Lir chose a life as a courier rather than get involved in her family’s illustrious business in politics. Set in humanity’s far future, hiring a planetary courier is essential for delivering private messages across the stars. Encouraged by friends, Tova begins mentoring baby bots, juvenile AI who are developmentally in their teens, and trains them how to interact within society essentially becoming their foster mom. Her latest charge, Agatha Panza von Sparkles, named herself on their first run from Luna to Phoebe station. But on their return, they encounter a derelict spaceship and a lurking assassin, igniting a thrilling chase across the solar system. Tova and Agatha’s daring actions leave Agatha’s mind vulnerable, relying on Tova’s former AI pupils for help.
